Verizon i phone 4

I recently received an I phone 4 for a gift and it was on Verizon. I'm not very tech savvy so please help! I want to switch it over to Straight Talk and I've read online about purchasing a Straight Talk Bring Your Own Phone CDMA Activation Kit. If I bought that and went through the steps, would I be able to transfer my phone to ST? I appreciate the help. Thank you.
