Good afternoon everyone. I have an HP G56 laptop with a smashed screen and an external monitor attached. I can get dual display or external monitor ONLY AFTER it boots to windows 7 home premium.

I can't to get it to change the display output until windows starts. I've tried tapping F4, and FN-F4 as soon as I get any activity on the LCD, but no external display until windows starts. F4 does the toggling after it boots to windows, no apparent effect until then.

I did get it to boot into the bios screen (ultimately I'm trying to boot from CDROM), but I can't make out the menus because the LCD is just too knackered.

Any other suggestions? My next step is to see if I can detach the LCD from the motherboard, I need to pull the screen anyway to replace it.

Hi, if you close the lid right after you power up, some laptops use the external monitor as the default.
