why are audio jacks on the top and not the bottom?

It makes a lot more sense in my mind to have them on the bottom. This way, you're going with gravity instead of against it and, I tend to put my phone in my pocket upside down so when I pull it out I can read the screen without having to turn my phone around. This pushes the audio cable against the bottom of my pocket. Any ideas why they would make it this way?

I think because if they put it on the top whilst it is in your pocket (the right way up), the wire doesn't bend but if the put it on the bottom the wire will bend quite a bit from the jack.
