Then most likely you're talking about operating system login password. It's quite easy to deal with this issue but i'm new here and i'm not completely aware of Tom's rules here, so i can't say anything much here, sorry.

If you're thw owner then you should have no problem in getting it back by contacting Dell about it.

You don't. If you don't have the password, the drive has to be sent back to the drive's manufacturer (along with proof of ownership, and some $$$) to have the master password applied. Better off just to trash the drive and replace it.
