so i have a low-end i3 2nd generation laptop that just died on me a week or so ago. inside, there are 2gb pc10666 corsair that i bought to increase the ram from 4gb to 6gb.

now im about to buy a new laptop and it comes with 4gb ram only. also new notebook ram is pc12800.

is it possible for me to put my 2gb corsair 10666 and combine it with the new laptop 12800 stock ram?

i really dont want to buy a 1x4gb 12800 ram since it cost $70 where i live regardless of the brand :(

however if it will cause major stability issues or destructing the laptop components, then yeah, i'd shell out the $70 instead of ruining my new $600 laptop

Yes, you can add that extra 2gb in but be warned that your RAM in your new laptop will run at the SLOWER speed of your old RAM.

I.E....

Your old RAM was 1333MHz your new RAM is 1600MHz. If you combine the two, the faster 1600MHz RAM will auto crank down to 1333MHz. You PROBABLY won't notice too much of a difference though
