Depends if you want Android or IOS.

Google Nexus 7 is a top performer for performance over cost. I have one and it's brilliant BUT it only has a 7" screen, so if you want bigger then you will to look at the Nexus 10.

Spec wise it's great - 2560 x 1600 resolution, up to 128GB storage with micro SXHD and prolonged battery life. Content wise the Kindle Fire is horrible - it's pretty much an Amazon advertisement delivery system.

the cpu is fine for most gaming. but it only has 1gb memory. 1280x800 is not the most hd screen also. at max you can only get 32 gb. it got a 85% rating. has a good camera. but it is a little pricey. honesty I would go with the nexus 7 or kindle hdx but do whatever you want

I personally would not go with a Kindle HDX, It may look impressive spec wise, but you are locked into content from the Amazon app store, which is way more limited in terms of apps and other content than any other Android-based tablet is.

This is my first tablet it is a hisense sero 7 pro which is a knockoff of the nexus 7
Except with only 1280x800 screen

I find 7 inches to be decent

Have to agree with the almost nonexistent app support on the amazon kindle
