Windows 8 Blue Screen/ Drive Problems

This is my 2nd laptop in a few months. My first was a Samsung Series 7 Chronos who’s hard drive crashed. This one is a Asus G46 and it just experienced a blue screen similar to that of my samsung but i was able to do a refresh and its obviously now running again. My question is what could be the cause of this? Both have had windows 8 but thats about the only thing in common between them. It’s happened on restart for both also. I’ve primarily just gamed when I’ve used them.
I’m concerned about the drive crashing on this one because i have yet to get an external hard drive to back it up plus i really don’t want to go through the process of getting another new computer only after a few months.Thanks for any help.
