Memory card problems

Ok everyone...I was using a basic cannon camera to take pictures for a project I was doing and I could see all the pictures that were already on the camera and the pictures I had just taken. When I was done, I put the memory card in my computer to copy the pictures over and when i did that and put the memory card back in the camera I couldnt view any pictures. I thought I had lost everything until I had noticed when I put the memory card back in the computer it all pulled up on my computer...just not on the camera. It would only show one picture and then it would say something like "incompatible jpeg". This has been so frustrating being that its not my camera...what can I do? HELP PLEASE...I need to get it back to how it was for my friend that let me use it for a project I was doing.

If you can get the pictures on the computer, copy them all out of the card, and then format the card in the camera using the camera options
