Was the Lenovo y510p a good choice?

So yesterday I ordered a Lenovo y510p for $1121 including tax.
Specs:
4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB
8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
1TB 5400 RPM+24GB SSD
Anti-glare screen

So first I'm wondering if I got the most I could with the money i spent on the y150p which is $1121? Could I got anything better? Would this computer be good for games like arma 2, bf3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and company of heroes 2. Keep in mind, I don't care how it looks as long as it runs smoothly.

My other question is should I just have gotten the lenovo y500 with a 16gb ssd instead, no ddr3l(regular ddr3), and a 3rd gen i7, for only $919 instead. Thats a $202 difference, for a slightly smaller ssd, non anti-glare screen, and a 3rd gen i7.

Some help would be great. Also I am going to use this laptop partially for college.

i don't think there would be any difference in performance for the games you listed here if you had bought y500 and spent 202 less. Video cards are the same and cpu and ram are too close in class to make any difference for gaming (or even non-gaming) performance. The only thing i'd recommend is to get a good ssd drive. 5400 rpm is too slow imo.
i personally got myself y500 (arrived a week ago) i got the cheapest $839 model (still with i7 , 8gb, and 750m gpu), spent another $200 for 256gb plextor msata and it simply flies now.

The only thing I like about the Y510 is that it has an anti-glare screen. I really don't like glossy screens. However, I wouldn't pay an extra $202 for that.

I'm not sure if the extra 8GB of SSD cache matters, I never researched about SSD cache sizes on performance. I will assume DDR3L RAM is simply slightly faster RAM. In most cases Intel CPUs and the iGPU do not benefit from faster RAM. They only way to really tell the difference between standard speed and faster RAM is to run benchmarks.

not sure where u bought it from but i think newegg had it with dual 750m instead and i think you got a great deal for the price as i was told a bit back get the best gpu u can afford and for that price i think its the best unless u want a laptop with a 7970 and a horrid A10 cpu

Yes, the y510 has 5 hours of battery life, and the y500 has 3 hours of battery life

I've got mine y510p on sale for $780 and totally loving it. y500 and y510p are very different performance wise. y510p way better characteristics.

So far been using this laptop for a few months and only 2 things i can list :
- very slow 5400rpm HDD. I removed it and installed SSD 256Gb and also removed DVD and instead installed another 256 SSD using ultrabay caddy. Now my cold startup to login screen is about 7-8 secs.
- gun-metal material loves you fingerprints.

other then this 2 things - awesome laptop!

where do you got your SSD for the ultrabay? i'm planning on getting a y510p SLI and get an extra optical drive for the ultrabay and upgrade the included SSD paired with the HDD.
