Try Razer Tiamat 7.1 or really anything on the higher end of SteelSeries products. http://steelseries.com/us/products/audio/steelseries-7h http://steelseries.com/us/products/audio/steelseries-si...

i was thinking of getting asus xonar essence stx sound card and astro a40 headset. how's the combo?

I don't like wireless headsets unless you really need one, too much interference with wifi signals. I bought one for my son and with the transmitter hooked up to the XBOX, it has no wifi at all, you need to turn on the headphones first, which is a pain to do every time. That's a good headset though for wireless, never tried it myself though.

Razer tiamat 7.1 is a decent model, despite the hate people sometimes give it here. the sound is ok but the mic is excellent, and if paired with a decent soundcard can perform well in gaming environments

the astro a50 is one of the better cross-platform headsets out there, but its wireless so the quality won't be as good as a wired alternative.

also if you're worried about wireless interference, the a50 (basically the a40 upgraded) is dual band so its a bit less likely to succumb to this

happy listening :)
