Hooking up a Dual monitor system(PC monitor and TV). I purchased a sound card that has S/PDIF In/Out. My TV already has S/PDIF from TV to surround sound.

My question is, will there be any benefit from this setup: HTPC HDMI to TV, S/PDIF from TV to HTPC "in" then S/PDIF "out" to surround sound?

Or will I be fine with: HTPC HDMI to TV then my current S/PDIF from TV to surround sound? Thus skipping the additional sound card and two S/PDIF cables.

Thanks!

Depending on your Surround Sound system, you may consider going HTPC to Surround Sound via HDMI and then Surround Sound to TV via HDMI. Otherwise, HTPC to TV via HDMI and TV to Surround Sound via S/PDIF Optical would be the preferred connection.

Thank you very much. My surround doesn't have HDMI, only the TV. The sound has RCA and S/PDIF.
