Have to buy a new laptop soon, and want to game on it. This Lenovo Y500 laptop is currently selling on Lenovo's site for $999. I've been doing some research lately and it seems like this is a GOOD deal, but I'm no expert. Take a look at the specs. Is there a sub-$1000 laptop better than this?? (Only thing is, I heard that this laptop does not have nvidia's "Optimus Technology" which lets the computer switch between Intel Integrated Graphics and the GT650M. Is that a big deal?)

-3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor( 2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
-NVIDIA GeForce GT650M 2GB
-16GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz
-15.6" FHD LED Glare Wedge 1920x1080
-1TB 5400RPM+16GB SSD
-Blu-ray/DVD-RW

Also, this laptop has a backlit keyboard and high quality speakers (according to reviews), which are minor features, but ones I really like a laptop to have.

Thanks people!

Your Lenovo looks pretty good.

In Australia, at MSY, they've got a similar spec Asus (N56-R501VZ-54387H) but at AU$1414!! (Everything is more expensive here, even with our stronger $)

I think Lenovo (and Asus) is a good rep brand.

You will not find a better laptop for the price. You can also get a 2nd GPU and run SLI.

The 16 GB SSD speeds up the boot time.
