I've been debating picking up a netbook or some other small, light, and cheap (Under $500) laptop. My current "mobile," computing solution is an aging brick T61 which, despite being the best computer I have ever had the pleasure of typing on, weighs a ton.

Unfortunately I hear the latest intel atom processors are not cooperating with linux and noted that the majority of the small, light, and cheap alternatives are amd powered and appear to have heat and quality control problems.

Has there been any redemption of the clovertrail or am I doomed to buy something with a much shorter battery life than I want?

Examples of what I have been looking at:
HP Mini
Acer Aspire One
