Purchasing a new laptops and Considering a Ultrabook: Help

A ultrabook typically has a processor of 1.7gz freq.
I want to know if this is fast enough to handle everyday task. My PC and laptop processors are around 2.6 and 3.4 Ghz and this being really less...So any advice??

It depends if a dual or quad 1.7 .....

Heat is a major problem in Ultrabooks...

Define everyday tasks.

If that's just surfing, watching movies, maybe playing some FaceBook games, then a 1.7GHz CPU will not be an issue whether it's AMD or Intel.

If "everyday tasks" includes playing games, encoding video, music production, sound engineering, then you a faster CPU.

I am a Computer science student and some coding is in order....And also I need portability (for college)
So any solution for this fix. Much appreciated(Thinkpad? Ideapads??)
