I bought this laptop from Best Buy around Nov 2009 and it is still in great shape. However, my pc was infected with spam and I changed the password but lost the paper I wrote it on. I took it to a specialist here in my office and he said that to fix it, he will have to break something and that scared the crap out of me so I told him not to fix it. Can you please help me because I am about to start online classes soon and I do not want to buy a new laptop?

Not sure which model you have but that can be a tough nut to crack.......

Flashing the BIOS won't work, removing the CMOS battery won't work either...(I've tried it before on a Tecra A8 machine.)

As an Admin, with several years experience in working on Toshiba laptops, my best advice for you is to:

First go to http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/glo...
Fill out the web form with your model and serial number and locate your nearest Toshiba Authorized Repair Center.

They have the tools to do an end around the BIOS password and reset it. For a modest fee of course. And they won't break anything in the process.

They may also require proof of purchase if you have never registered your laptop.

A bit riskier approach can also be found at:

Tom's Hardware doesn't assist with password removal because we have no proof you are the owner.
