I might try to clone the hard drive to a ssd, and replace it that way.
Intel and Samsung offer free clone utilities that work with their drives only.

Your laptop should have a coa sticker with the oem activation code. I would imagine that the dvd that came would work like anything else.
It has probably been altered to work only on a dell pc so it can't be resold.

It should be. What does the CD say on it? Is it black or purple with "Windows 7" on it? I forget what color the Dell windows 7 is. Could be green, but that is XP I think.

Basically, it's a CD that reinstalls Windows on Dell systems without a license key. If you need a license key, it is on the underside of the laptop, but you shouldn't need it with the Dell Windows 7 CD.

i do believe it is an actual copy of windows 7. it has the fancy copper colored hologram around the edges of the disk. it says on the package that the refurbished must have windows 7 preinstalled on the system.
it says the disk is for backup purposes only.
