I have an upgraded Asus N61JQ
i7 q720
8 gb ddr3
Amd radeon hd 6570M
When I idle with my Targus cooling par it normally sits at 65c but when I play anything is sometimes going in the 90c
Is that normal for this laptop or these specs.
Any help would be appreciated.

You not the only one with an ASUS N61JQ with those temperatures. I had those temperatures before. As long as you are not going over 95C on your CPU or GPU, you should be fine. There will not be performance throttling unless you go over 100C.

Buy a bottle of compressed. Make sure you use it correctly so you do not spray liquid. Spray the main fan at the least, and other areas of the laptop. This will reduce your temperatures by at least 20C if you have not cleaned out your fans in a while.

A trick I do, since I have a cooling pad like you, is I remove my bottom panel when I game. My cooling pad sends direct cool air to the CPU and GPU. With clean fans and the bottom panel removed, my temperatures never go over 75C. Removing your bottom panel is a little risky, so I would not recommended it if you are clumsy or got children at your place. :)
