I have just purchased an IOgear KVM swith to operate two computer with 1 mouse, 1 keyboard, and 1 monitor. However, when I use their hotkey to swtich my laptop to my main monitor, my monitor shuts down due to no signal from the PC. When I reboot the laptop my monitor starts to turn on and then instantly goes to sleep again due to no connectivity. So obviously it is getting some sort of signal at the beginning, but why wont it stay? Is my VGA port bad? There are only 14 pins on the cable instead of 15 but pretty sure that doesnt make a difference. Any ideas?

Press the Windows key + P to pull up your external monitor choices from within windows.

If you hook up the external monitor directly (without the KVM) does video show properly? If so, your VGA port works fine.

The missing pin on the VGA cable may be the issue when using the KVM.

Pin 9 is an optional 5V output, But I don't know if the KVM is looking for that or not...
