The screen on my laptop is cashed can i use a tv as a monitor using the hdmi cab

well you would need to see the screen to switch the display to the tv. Some laptops might automatically switch though

usuall can swap video source using the fn key and the appropriate number key for display switching

thank you you think i should try? where im from they want $125.oo to transfer it to a flash drive

Try the video source switch, pull the files you want yourself and save 125 to put towards a new computer. If your confident with hardware you could remove the drive yourself, put it into a usb enclosure and pull your files yourself....its a matter of how comfortable you are with diy....
