This article is a year old but still somewhat relevent http://www.cadcamperformance.com/2012/01/16-things-to-look-for-in-a-mobile-workstation-for-cad/
I'm tempted to say the Lenovo Thinkpad W530 might be an option. Another way might be a boutique builder such as http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=product&filter=4 who also makes portable workstations to your specs - those systems get pricy though, what's your budget?

Thank you!

Hi :)

For a high end graphics laptop , you realise we are talking THOUSANDS ...NOT hundreds ?

All the best Brett :)

Here are two options one from Lenovo and one from Dell
1) Lenovo W530 http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=8290D97BCD4869FF73A91D590D8749C5&redir=y Starting with the "High Performance" $2399 model, changed CPU to 3920XM (+$550), System Graphics changed to Quadro K2000M (+$250), Total Memory to 32GB (+$360) - no other changes brought the cost to $3559
2) Dell Precision M6700 http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=bwccad67&m_2=I73740Q&m_3=16G4D6&m_6=AMD6000&m_8=750G72&m_11=W7PN61E&m_16=8XDVRS&model_id=precision-m6700&c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04 base price $2062 and changing... CPU to the 3940XM (+$612), ram to 32GB (+$323.68), then I got lost in storage, that lappy has a lot of harddrive options... lol, just another to consider

Hi :)

Thats VERY good advice ^^^^^^^^^^^

All the best Brett :)

Dell looks good as does lenovo, but really, spending $600 for a slightly better cpu (3 ghz vs 2.7) is kinda pointless because you will only see minimal gains, especially if there are cooling problems and the cpu does not reach full turbo boost. RAM would be better to buy on your own, it'll be much cheaper. Get the best screen possible.

A Mac is not an option?, all I have is Dell and would like to change, Lenovo sound good as a good choice if Mac not an option.

Yes, I know this, I always had problems at work when my employees render, the computer always stop and we would have to start all aver again.
3.5-4.5 is not that bad.
Thank you!

The Apple offerings, in the way of MacBook Pro with Retina do not offer the graphics cards best suited for your uses (the Firepro or Quadro cards) - the GT 650M offered by Apple is woefully underpowered in comparison. You could use a MacBook Pro but even with OSX, you will not get the performance Lenovo or Dell offer. Not to mention the MacBook's limit of 8Gb of ram.
I wasn't ignoring Apple but CAD/CAM is not their forte IMO.
For the screen, non-glare is a necessity if working outdoors otherwise it's your discretion. I think Whyso is referring to the resolution of the display, while 1080p might be nice, I don't think it's as important as ram, graphics card or CPU capabilities. And yes, the 3920XM and 3940XM are that much of a step up that the price becomes justified for the need IMO.
Ram can be upgraded by you for substantially less than having it installed by the factory but I think 32Gb is justified here (whatever way you go about getting there)
My $0.02 here
