Laptop stops working after haveing internet

Hi. My boyfriend got Cox internet about 3 months ago. He has an hp laptop. Today his laptop says that it doesnt have internet. So i go to my Computer Destop to see if mine had internet and it DID. We dont know whats wrong with his laptop. He's cleaned it. Shut it off for 10 seconds. He tried to "Troubleshoot Problem" but his laptop says they cant find one. We also tried the internet thingy that i have in my computer just to try to get internet that way but it just didnt work. PLEASE HELP
