This is for my sister. She does NOT play games. The main use for this Laptop will be HD Video playback. She will also use it to convert to DVD the movies she download so our mom can watch them.
Is a 3rd gen core i3 enough?
Will it last at least 3 years?
Should I get a 2nd gen core i5 even though it only has HD 3000?
Should I get an APU ?

I would like to buy from Newegg.
I will greatly appreciate your help. Thanks and Happy New Year!!!

Since she does not play games, there is no reason to get an i5. Even a 2nd gen i3 should do you just good. It doesn't matter what graphics card you have when it comes to just burning movies to dvd's. All you need to look for is a decent i3 processor, atleast 6gb of ram, and a good dvd drive for your sister's laptop. Video burning requires ram and that is why i say atleast 6gb. Since there will be alot of movies/videos, you want to aim for 500gb HDD or higher.
Here are some laptops in your price range that fit your needs:

Any one of those is a good choice. If you can get her the model with an i5, go with that. It'll make converting videos faster. How long it last depends on how well the user takes care of it.
