Dell Inspiron 15r or 15r SE

Hi there,

I have searched quite a lot but still confused, I'm planning to buy one of Inspiron 15R or 15R SE.

The only difference I see between the two is the graphic card (15r with AMD 7670M vs 15r SE with AMD 7730M), but going through the benchmarks I hardly see any improvements in SE model's Radeon 7730M from that of 15R's Radeon 7670M.

Can you guys please help me in choosing between the two.

Is SE really worth giving some extra bucks for Radeon 7730. Also 15r SE didn't have any FHD (Full HD).

Whatever you do avoid a laptop with a 1366x768 screen resolution like the plague. Look for 1920x1080 and wait if you need to.

Thanks for your reply, I have consulted another store which offers the same SE version laptop with FHD display with a very little cost to add. Is it worth now.

The only models of the Dell Inspiron 15R that are generally good choices are the models of the Inspiron 15R SE that come with the 1920x1080 display.

1366x768 resolution in a 15.6 inch display make things onscreen large, and 15.6 inch displays that have 1366x768 resolution tend to be low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast. You should make a point to avoid displays like this when it is reasonable to do so, unless you require the larger text for eyesight related reasons. 15.6" 1920x1080 displays are generally great, but the reason you need to be looking at laptops that come with 15.6" 1920x1080 displays instead of 15.6" 1366x768 displays isn't just because of how good the 1920x1080 displays are, it's also because of how bad the 1366x768 displays are.

I've been suggesting the following model a lot lately, but this is currently one of the best deals on a laptop that's both gaming-capable and comes with a decent display. The GT 650M is faster than the 7730M by a decent bit.

- Don't downgrade the GPU to the GT 630M or to Intel HD 4000 graphics. The GT 650M is considerably faster than either, and if one of the lower GPU options would work just as well for you then I would probably suggest getting an entirely different laptop.
- Don't downgrade the display to 1366x768. The 1366x768 display makes things onscreen large, and is a low-grade LCD panel with very poor image quality due to low contrast. The availability of the upgraded 1920x1080 display is part of why I'm recommending this laptop; I wouldn't be recommending this laptop if it didn't offer it.
