I can't seem to find an answer to this issue.

My wife just received her sister's old HP Pavilion dv2700 Notebook pc and, apparently, the cd/dvd drive isn't being detected. I have looked in disk management: nothing. I have looked in device manager: I only see "wdc wd3200bevt-60zct0 ata device". I have checked the BIOS: cd/dvd is boot-enabled. I've run the microsoft fix-it: nothing doing.

Any suggestions? Help? Please?

Thanks!
~jd.

It does not show in device manager under DVD/CD-Rom drives? You can right click on DVD/CD-Rom drives and select 'show hidden devices', it may show up that way.
The reality here is that optical drives and HHD's are usually the first to wear out in a system so replacement of the optical drive may be needed, it is neither hard nor expensive.
Hope it helps
