Keyboard types wrong characters

My laptop is model toshiba satellite M480 -A758, i want to type the character @but i get ",but if i wanto type " i get @

It sounds like your laptop somehow got the keyboard set to a non-US (or non-English) version. Follow these directions from the Microsoft to change it back:
