I am looking for a gaming laptop for under 1000. I found one with a 3rd gen i7 3630, and a GT640M, NOT a GTX640

I am looking for laptops because of the portablility of the, and if I plan to do 'hardcore' gaming, I will attach it to a bigger monitor w/ mouse and keyboard and headset.

I'm wondering how fast the GT640M is, because I can't find any good benchmarks for this card. Will it play Battlefield 3 on ultra? High? What resolution would the game be at, the laptop has a 15.6" 1920x1080 screen. Also, how many FPS.

Nope. The GT 640m is as unremarkable as they come. In order to get high/ultra in a laptop you need to shoot for a GT 670m or higher, and that will barely run it on High. A 680m will run it on Ultra at barely ~30fps. Sorry, man, laptops aren't cut out for gaming like desktops are.

Battlefield 3 (2011)
low: 46 48 48 50.1 (!) ~ 48 fps Compare
med.: 32 33 34 37.5 (!) ~ 34 fps Compare
high: 25 25 26 29.8 (!) ~ 26 fps Compare
ultra: 11 11 11 14 (!) ~ 12 fps Compare »
With all tested laptops playable in detail settings low.

Considering that a desktop GT 640 barely scrapes 40 fps on the low preset at 1080p, no, the mobile version cannot come close to playing BF3 on ultra. That is, unless you're comfortable with 3fps.

Also, keep in mind, if you want to do "hardcore" gaming, as you call it, running the game on an even greater resolution will make it go even slower.
