I have just one simple question for owners of laptops with a combo jack (microphone and headphone jack in one).

Can you plug a normal headphone set into the jack and still use the microphone integrated on the laptop?
So... can the two be separated even if they are integrated into one jack?
Or do you have to use one OR the other combo. (only laptop speakers and laptop mic VS headphones+mic)
Does the combo jack have some disadvantages or is it the same thing as two jacks?

If someone would be kind to try that combination on his computer and let me know.

Yes, you can use the laptop mic and a separate headset. I believe if you plug in a headset that had a microphone it will still give you the option to select which microphone you want to use.

What you need is a "Combo Jack" or 3.5mm splitter. You an plug in both the Mic and Headset from a "normal" 2 plug headset.

No it wouldn't let you use the internal mic unless you specify so fom the computer's control panel to have the mic connected as off and the internal one active
