I have narrowed my search of laptops down to 2.

Macbook Air 13"

2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
256GB Flash Storage
$1699

or

System 76 Gazelle Professional (gazp7 https://www.system76.com/laptops/model/gazp7 )

15.6" 1080p Full High Definition LED Backlit Display with Glossy Surface ( 1920 x 1080 )
Intel HD Graphics 4000
3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor ( 2.30GHz 6MB L3 Cache - 4 Cores plus Hyperthreading )
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 2 X 4GB +$45.00
120 GB Intel 520 Series SATA III 6 Gb/s Solid State Disk Drive +$109.00
750 GB 7200 RPM HDD + Caddy Case +$105.00
Intel Centrino 1030 - 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module
$1243

Use is light gaming (online and through WINE), and media editing and creation. My wallet prefers System 76, and the 76 is better as far as upgrades go, better as storage goes, better as screen size goes, is there anything I am missing.that says buy the mac.

I love Mac's, and most of my family and extended family have a Mac, but they also have a larger income that I do and can justify paying the additional "Mac Tax."

For what you want to do the System 76 definately sounds like the more reasonable option. There are a few sites out there like xoticpc and gentechpc that you can piece together a laptop but for the most part, with the options you have selected, they are all going to be in the same ball park price wise.

So unless you can justify paying for the rights to say you own a Mac, I would go with the System 76.
