Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on whether either of these laptops would be a decent gaming laptop on a budget.

I'd be mainly looking at playing Diablo 3, SW:TOR maybe Skyrim/Fallout 3 and similar so nothing too demanding.

and

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5560G_Quad_Core_Windows_7_Laptop_in_Black__NX.RUREK.001/version.asp?refsource=LDfroogle

One has a quad core AMD processor (AMD 3240m) and the other an Intel (i3-2350m)

The AMD comes with a 1gb HD7670M GPU while the Intel is coupled with a GT630M

Any opinions would be helpful :)

They aren't very good spec wise, they could probably run the games you listed to some degree (diablo would probably run fine, but skyrim/fallout are very demanding games at higher settings).

If you are budget limited, I would be surprised if you could get much better than what you found. I think the AMD based laptop would be a better value, but they are probably close, and I could easily be wrong.

If those are your only two choices go with the i3. However, to get Skyrim to look anything like it is supposed to save your money and get something better or wait for a sale...or both

its only an oxymoron when the budget is under 1000$. after that, its decent albeit, more expensive than its desktop counterpart for the same performance.

Too true! - you can get 1080p gameplay with all candy on using a 'laptop' (680m sli clevo, etc), but it's gonna cost you $2000 and up, and, you're not gonna call it a 'laptop' for long ;)

Of course, you can reduce the budget and get 'acceptable' lower quality gameplay.
