my inspiron 15 notebook's screen flickers and fade in & out, then it stays deem. What is the problem and how can this be corrected?

first you need to determine if its a hardware or software issue. I'm guessing its a bad LCD but anyway, you want to boot from an Ubuntu or Fedora liveCD. if it works fine from the Live CD then you know its a windows problem. if it also gives you problems while booting from the liveCD you know you need to replace the screen.
