Hello,
Dell Inspiron 1370 freezes - I have reformatted and removed the battery but the problem re-occurrs when I re-fit the battery. Should I risk buying a new battery?

Unless you really use your battery i would not bother, it's quite an expense. Batteries can cause all sorts of problems if they are old and corroded inside. Difficult choice

I have been repairing laptops professionally for 14 years and I have had this problem appear in a few laptops over that time. It has sometimes been the battery at fault and sometimes the mainboard. And if I remember rightly, on one or two occasions it was actually software! So it is a bit of a gamble to go out and buy a new battery just to find the fault remains. It might be worth tracking down a used battery which no longer holds a charge - it would cost very little and would be useful just for test purposes...

Hi Rico ,

I am Prasant from the Dell Social Media Outreach Team. Install the Dell Support Center on your computer http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/global/shared/services/dell_support/dellsupport_main/en/ca/dsc?c=ca&l=en&s=gen and run the hardware test on the battery, post the analysis from the test.. Also try downloading and installing the latest BIOS : http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/ca/en/cadhs1. Once done turn the machine off and just plug in using the AC Adapter battery to be removed, check and see if your system freezes even after the battery is removed. Also boot the system in safe mode. Let me know what are the results
