Laptop for outdoor use

Hi everyone. I'm heading for a new laptop or tablet for outdoor use (where power supply are not available most of the time..park etc..). My current laptop is too heavy and has a weak battery life of 1 hour or less.

So here are the listed requirements to help you help me find the right device.

Purpose of use:
-Outdoor
-Web browsing mostly (multiple open tabs, should be ready for lots of flash-based content sites likes although no flash gaming, mostly webpage browsing flash content).
-Music listening
-Office work (MS office and such)
NO gaming
NO HD movie watching
NO video/design editing or any such heavy tasks


Requirement: (in ascending priority)
#1: Long Battery life: I just don't want to have to bring any wire with me so battery should be 8-10 hours OR any alternative, very portable charging supply device (heard of some wireless charging mat... ?...)
#2: must be able to leave it in the car all the time (temperature can raise over 40C in summer and -30C in winter..) <-- maybe I can store it in some temperature proof box or something to help
-Some usb ports (no optical drive needed)
-Screen: between 14″ and 12" screen, Bright and clear screen for even very sunny daylight condition. Glossy or not.. don't care. Must reasonable high resolution however
-Unit Dimension: Thin, and lightweight as much possible (mine currently weight 6.29pnd/2.85 kg which is a bit too heavy)

if it's not listed above, it means I don't care or don't need it (i.e hd capacity etc..)

That's a tall order. What makes it very difficult is the need for a 8 - 10 hour battery life. I don't know of any ultrabooks with that amount of battery life. The average is roughly a little over 6 hours. Combine that with trying to get a resolution of more than 1366x768 on a small screen is going to be very difficult.

The 13" HP Folio 13 has almost 8 hours of battery life, but it has a relatively low 1366x768 resolution.

The 13.3" Samsung Series 9 NP900XA gets about 7.5 hours of battery life, and is very light at about 2.9lbs (1.31kg), but it also has low screen resolution of 1366x768.

The 13.3" Samsung Series 9 NP900XB has a 1600x900 resolution screen and is even lighter than the NP900XA model at about 2.6lbs (1.2kg), but at the cost of battery life of about 5 hours. The weight savings is likely due to a smaller battery.

The 15.0" Samsung Series 9 gets just under 7 hours of battery life. I has a 1600x900 resolution screen and weighs in at just under 4lbs. But at 15", it a bit larger than what you are looking for. However, this is probably the all round laptop that fits your needs.

Last, but not least is the Lenovo ThinkPad T420s which fits all your requirements. It's battery life can last up to 10 hours, but it requires you to purchase the optional bay drive which is inserted into the removable DVD drive bay. Since the bay battery will be denser than a DVD drive it will also increase the weight. It has a matte finish 1600x900 resolution screen which means no glare and reflections on a bright sunny day.

I only know of certain of cellphones that can be charged wirelessly. However, even if there was such a thing for a laptop, you would still need to carry the charging mat with out and plug it in somewhere. Might as well carry the AC charger since it is likely to be lighter and less bulky.

Not a good idea at all. Will ruin your laptop battery quickly. And may ruin the laptop itself.

Finally, I'll be opting for a regular Netbook with average battery life, But I'll buy a spare battery, simply. I'll simply plug and recharge them in the car when going back home.

So which regular Netbook would do ?
I ended out setting some budget restriction to this purchase. wouldnt like to go over 250$ - 300$ used.
