Ancient laptop still going strong. HP Pavilion zd7000. Need to know if there are any compatible 128 GB SSDs that would work in this laptop?

There are PATA 2.5" 44pin IDE SSD's now on sale on Ebay, Kinsgpec is the most popular and lowcost make. They claim to be compatible with all notebooks, and write speeds of greater than 66.7MB/s imply UDMA mode 5 (ATA-100) at least (this is the highest ZD7000 PATA mode).

I tried a 1.8" SATA drive with a micro SATA-IDE (44 pin) adapter last year on a HP Pavillion ZD7000, however operation was unreliable and the ZD7000 would set the connection speed at UDMA-mode 2 (ATA-33) which strongly limited performance when it did work. Even then it booted faster than a modern fast 2.5" HDD.

The problem appears to be that the old ZD7000 BIOS cannot properly recognize a SATA drive, even with a SATA-PATA adapter, and by default reverts to UDMA mode 2 (perhaps assuming it is a CD-drive). A PATA SSD should not have this problem as there is no SATA drive or adapter confusion, however only a test would confirm.
