Acer Aspire 5732Z Intermittent CPU Spikes

Okay so I have an Acer Aspire 5732Z, had it for about 3 years or so. Of late the CPU would spike to 100% and stay there...mostly while in game, after I tab out for a few minutes it clears up, then when I'm back in game after 5-10minutes it resumes. The spikes seem to have gotten more and more frequent. Thought it might be overheating but it still happens even when the fan isn't at full pelt.

Did you check virus infection, or background processes?

Run a latest version of anti-virus program, and msconfig to find out what processes are running. If there are lots of unnecessary processes, disable them.
