HP DOCK HSTNN-IX01 not powering my nc8430 laptop

Hello,
I have not one but two HP HSTNN-IX01 docks

that are supposed to work with my HP/Compaq NC8340 laptop.

They both connect video to the monitor however, neither transmits power to the laptop. Yes I made sure to connect the power cable to the docks.

Why no power? on two docks?
What's the possible prob?
Is there a fix?

Are you using the power supply that came with the docking station or the laptop/notebook to power the docking station?
