Acer Extensa 5230 Fan comes on then quits

My wifes Acer Extensa 5230 Fan comes on when you turn on the computer then quits after less than 10 seconds. It does not come on when the temperature starts to rise ie. still not on at 45deg C. Yesterday she was using the laptop and heard the fan stop. I tried cleaning out the heat exchanger on the heat pipe. Still same story.
Any suggestions?

It's possible the fan has simply become faulty. Have you tried looking for a replacement? They shouldn't be too expensive.

Another thing you could do is go into the BIOS and just check what the settings are for the fan etc, in case a setting has been changed. Provided you don't have any particular settings changed in your BIOS, it's worth giving the "restore default BIOS settings" option a go.

I really wouldn't advise using this PC until it's sorted.. Don't wanna run the risk of killing a good machine!

Well I guess I quit just a wee bit too soon. It comes on about 48deg C. :lol:
