Hi Everyone,

My laptop won't boot up on the battery, but only when I put the power lead into it.

I can then take the lead out immediately and it will carry on working fine.

This is really frustrating, as I cannot use my laptop if I have no power outlet nearby.

And it took 3 years for the frustration to build up to ask?
Has it ever worked normally? And that's the battery that came with the laptop?
How long does the battery last when charged?

The average lifespan of a laptop battery is about 2-4 years under normal operating conditions. And it sounds like your battery's life hasn't been normal.
I can't see you have much choice except to think about a new battery.

The battery has never worked normally. It came with the laptop and when charged it lasts the same as a normal laptop.

I think you need to replace the battery.

There is increased load when booting to spin up the hard drive, and other components.
That may be enough to give you problems at boot, but not when running normally

If the hard drive is the issue, and the laptop is otherwise good for you, consider replacing the hard drive with a SSD.
A SSD will absolutely transform the performance of your pc.
