Basically, I've been waiting to order this laptop for a while and I was planning on getting the GTX 580M GPU for it. However just before purchasing I noticed that it was no longer available. I contacted the company who then told me that they had ran out of stock and were not planning on getting any new deliveries. Which leaves me with the choice of waiting another month or so for the updated GTX cards. OR - I instead opt for the Radeon 6990M. So, my question is what's the performance difference between the two cards and between the following two spec set ups? BTW - I will be playing games such as BF3, Skyrim, Starcraft 2 etc.

Don't bump threads - it's in the forum rules, which you should take a look at. I got slapped for the same thing when I started out here : )

Anyway - the 6990m is a very nice card for a laptop. Personally though - the gtx cards get better drivers. And if you like to play new games - and not be disappointed in performance because of ati's laziness - the gtx is the way to go in my opinion.

Ahh my mistake. Fair enough. I heard the same thing, I'm just impatient and can't stand the wait haha. Thanks!

Honestly I'd go with 6990 unless you really feel like to wait for GTX cards to be finally released even then I doubt one will be vastly superior to the other. I'd just rather not wait it out if it was me.

I'd go with the second laptop just for the ssd.

The graphics cards are more or less the same and AMD's drivers are on par with nvidia's so don't let that sway your decision
