Acer laptop hooking up to tv

Hello,
please does anyone no what im doin wrong..trying to hook paptop to tv with proper adapter but when switching over do you leave the tv screen set on tv or do ya switch to dvd mode or vcr mode ect.. ??? also tells you too switch pushing fn & f4 buttons but nothin really happens ..help pls !!

Depends on your TV. You need to be sure it's on the correct input, and we have no idea what that is.
