Looking for a laptop in the $800 range more or less for some moderate gaming. I am going to use this for my primary gaming system through the end of 2012 (going overseas for work and cannot bring my PC). I get a slight discount from HP and Dell (but even so I can't find anything price/performance wise with dell) through work, but the Lenovo has me intrigued with their weekly deal on the y570. I'll be using a monitor with the laptop so the screen I am not as worried about. I also don't plan to game while not plugged in so the talk about the 570 slowing down when unplugged is not an issue.

Lenovo ($799)

IdeaPad Y570 Laptop - 08626LU - Dusk Black (with USB 3.0): Weekly Deal
Processor: 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor ( 2.2GHz 1333MHz 6MB )
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 1GB
Total memory: 8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
Hard Drive: 500GB 5400

HP dv6tse ($834)

Operating system Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edit
Processor 2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i5-2520M (2.5GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.2 GHz edit
Graphics card 1GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7470M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics(TM) [HDMI, VGA] edit
Memory FREE UPGRADE to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) edit
Hard drive 750GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection edit

Not sure how the i5-2520M and the i7-2670QM stack up against each other, but my understanding is that the 7470 gets beat handily by the 555M? The 7200rpm drive would be nice (oh how I will miss my SSD....) I can upgrade the GPU on the HP to a 2GB 7690M for about $72, which brings the total to $902 - I'm willing but not sure the money is well spent here really. Thanks for the input.

Quick edit: Since it's going to be output to my monitor, resolution will be a serious factor as well. My inclination is to go with the lenovo for (what I believe) is the better GPU.

That laptop seem to be the best one with the GT 555m... Go ahead and get it! BUT if your ganna upgrade GPU, buy a cheap laptop that's a quad core at least and that have a video card, upgrade it to HD 7690m....
