use old laptop hdd into external HDD.
You will not going to see OS side but you have a chance to see files that are movie, music or doc.

for future please use one of this unit.

i personally love it.

all my family share it and store there movie and music.

for me, no more burn dvd, no more transfer data using flash drive, no more msn file transfer, no more skype data share, no more turn on my main pc 24hours for wait for other users get a data from me. i love it~!!!!

It depends on how old the laptop is on which connection type it will have. Laptops within 5 years or so all use sata. So you can either get an external enclosure (which is oddly cheaper) or a sata to usb adapter. $6 and $10 respectively.
