Hi all,

I'm looking to pick up a lightweight netbook that can happily play 1080p video files, e.g. QTs (obviously not at full resolution!). Reason being I'll be travelling for three months in SE Asia and shooting a lot of video with my Canon 7D - I need a portable machine that will allow me to transfer and back up the video files, but also review them with relative ease. The 7D creates QTs at 1080p and 720p.

I've been looking at the Toshiba NB550D, with a 1GHz dual-core AMD C-50 processor - apparently this is more powerful than a lot of netbooks and can handle 1080p streaming video well (e.g. YouTube). I'm just not sure about playing video files saved to the netbook hard drive or from an external hard drive.

Any thoughts? I imagine a lot of responses will be that netbooks aren't meant for playing 1080p video - I guess the real question is what's the best balance between portability and performance, bearing in mind a lot of travel and 1080p video files.

Thanks in advance!

Tom
