This is the one I should be getting: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-XPS-17-i7-2630QM-1920x1080/dp/B0051VX9Y2?SubscriptionId=AKIAIWRQTFZMBOMFZP2Q&tag=piya0457-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0051VX9Y2

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with them at all, I hope to use it for model rendering and Gaming, mainly SC2 and Skyrim and was unsure how well it would perform. Do you think it will be able to run them smoothly on medium-high settings?

I've never had a Laptop specifically for gaming before so i'm unsure on the capabilities of the CPU and GPU, the GPU claims to be 3GB but that to me seems unreasonably high for a laptop.

What are your thoughts on it?

I appreciate all answers.

P.S: I was offered an unused one for £475 (about $750 I think), I didn't think I could turn down an offer like that.

What parts are actually in that XPS 17 you're looking at?
The CPU, graphics card and screen resolution could be any of several options.

Yes is that model, i'm buying it off a relative who never got the chance to use it. I would have never paid Amazon prices for it.

The i7-2630QM clocks @ 2.0GHz and Turbo boosts up to 2.9GHz, its currently set at about 2.5GHz.

The GPU is as it says a 3GB GT 555m (with optimus)

And the screen is a 17.3" FHD 1080p (1920x1080)

Ah, thankyou very much for that. Most appreciated.

On a side note, I will be getting the Laptop 2 weeks before the charger as they are currently on seperate sides of the country. So my question is; can I temporarily charge the XPS 17 off my current 65W Compaq Charger until the proper one arrives? The XPS 17 usually requires a 150W charger.

I would say 'maybe' - but if it was my laptop - I'd wait till the proper charger got there.
You'd need to check that the electrical specs of the charger were the same, apart from the amperage/wattage rating. A close match and it might (slowly) charge the battery.
