It's possible that the virus trashed the operating system (Windows) instead of crashing (damaging or destroying) your hard drive.
If that's the case you can probably get by without needing a replacement hard drive.
And if you do need a replacement hard drive any of the standard laptop 2.5" SATA 5400rpm or 7200rpm drives will work in your 1750.
Right now a replacement 500GB HDD is running about $100
Six weeks ago it would have been closer to $50. A flood in Asia damaged some major MFGRs capacity and prices have spiked.
