Hello, you typically need a regular modem to connect the phone line to a computer. If your laptop is fairly new it probably doesn't have such a thing, so you'll need to get something like a USB landline modem to hook up your land line.

What is it that you need to do? send/receive fax? or make phone calls?

if it's the latter then i'd advise you to go out and get a cheap $10-20 phone that you can hook up to the phone line.
