Gateway laptop ms2273 does not power on

i have a gateway laptop model ms2273 that does not power on. the neighbourhood tech guy told me hat the mother board needs to be chagned at a cost of $175- should i change it or buy another laptop?

I would buy another laptop and not another Gateway. I have never been a fan of them.
