Dell Vostro 3550 - CPU selection

Hello folks,

I need an expert advice from anybody regarding the processor for Vostro 3550 laptop - which I decided to buy.

These are my preferences for system:

-Quiet and cool
-Power efficient (more battery life)
-Internet browsing
-Microsoft Office
-No games
-Optimized for academic research
-Light entertainment


There is a choice between Core i3 2310m and Core i5 2410m. The price difference is $ 220...

Which one of these two will be more reasonable selection?

Hello Os_15;

Either one will be fine. The $220 price difference is far too large a penalty for a modest performance boost. The 'real' cost difference between the two CPUs is more like $60-$70.

yeah I think you'll be fine with i3. i5 is only about 20% performance boost and def not worth $200 bucks for the upgrade

I think that for my tasks i3 will be more suitable at a lower price. I also think that i5 is overpriced though it is the same seller.
