Solved! Mouse pointer grabs screen instead of gliding over

Hello,
I just bought a Toshiba laptop. Windows 7. Using the mouse pad on the computer, the pointer often locks up and instead of gliding over the page it locks on and doesn't let go. Like sticky fingers! Is this a feature (which I find irritating) or a glitch i can correct?

Is it the same if you plug in a USB mouse?
If not, then it might be a problem with the trackpad...
