Thinkpad x220 problems with Displayport

Hi all,

My recently purchased Thinkpad x220 is having some really weird issues with it's displayport. I bought an adaptor to output HDMI to my television for movies. I have connected via VGA before and it worked fine. However, when I plug in my displayport adapter, my computer resets itself automatically. I believe it might have something to do with the thinkvantage utilities? I have no idea what could possibly be wrong, however I am quite sure it is a software problem and not one with my laptop. Has anyone experienced an issue like this before?

perhaps update/reinstall video drivers

also try FIRST before the system is on plugging it in then starting the system
