Why cant i reinstall windows on my dell laptop

i have tried now 6/7 times to re-install vista home on my dell inspiron when i purchased the pc about 9 months ago it came with windows pre-installed and did not get a disc ..i have followed the steps by pressing f8 then clicking enter on the repair your comp it should then take u to enter english then log in then i should see dell factory image restore but all i am getting after i have clicked repair your comp is that the pc just boots up to its old windows that i am trying to format..

I'm not sure which way the recovery was structured on dell, maybe there's an option to initiate system recovery while running windows.

Basically, find the recovery partition on your HDD and see if there's any .exe in there that could help you out. If not, give dell a ring, they'll point you in the right direction.
